Robert Elstein is an outsider to politics, a proud teacher, an artist, a poet, a theater person, a fun dad & a keen political observer.
Elstein is calling for "Visionary Progress," the development of a Brooklyn community with bonds stronger than we have ever seen.
It is in Elstein's experience in 15+ years as an English & theater teacher in the greatest Brooklyn public high school & more than two decades in education that have helped him to realize just how severely our public school system is broken.
Recognizing that similar problems persist across the board, in almost every New York City agency, Elstein became sickened.
Seeing that the progressive promises by so many politicians had sadly disintegrated, Elstein considered entering politics.
Mayor de Blasio's embarrassing & dangerous mishandling of the schools during the pandemic & the administration's failure to revitalize our schools' curricula in two terms are the final straws calling Elstein into the race.
With a firm belief that communities must take the lead, that the city is in our hands & we don't even realize it, Elstein has developed a series of policy proposals to bring meaningful reform to so many vital aspects of our life.
At the top of Elstein's list is the call that NYC must develop a robust & comprehensive plan to address climate change & that mayoral control of schools must end, along with the disbanding of the ineffective Panel for Educational Policy to be replaced by Community School Panels comprised of faculty, parents & students to build schools & curricula to meet the needs of the 21st Century.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF CAMPAIGN
Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars will be wasted this election cycle in the service of unimaginative, uninspired candidates who have no hope of resonating lest they play-for-pay within the corrupt capitalistic system they coddle.
In launching this campaign for Brooklyn Borough President, 2021, Robert Elstein refusED to accept financial donations & pledgeD not to spend more than $1,000 of his own money.
Our message needED your amplification, not your hard-earned dollars AS WE ORIGINATED AS a people's campaign, powered by a different kind of capital.
AS OF JANUARY 2021, AFTER AN ENORMOUS OUTPOURING Of SUPPORT, ELSTEIN HAS TRANSITIONED TO A TRADITIONALLY MONETIZED CAMPAIGN. IN RECOGNIZING THAT SUCH A TRANSITION COULD HELP ELSTEIN & HIS VOLUNTEERS IMMEASURABLY IN THEIR GOAL TO BEAUTIFY BROOKLYN BEFORE ELECTION DAY, ELSTEIN'S COMMITTEE "RADICAL UNITY" NOW GRACIOUSLY WELCOMES MONETARY DONATIONS.
THIS IS the campaign of a unique messenger, with a unique message: that we CAN reimagine EVERYTHING, for the better. That real progress is NOT hopeless, & that we can take our city wherever we want it to go, but not within our current draconian system.
This campaign is a movement, a union, a force for good. We are a collective of disenfranchised New Yorkers who are fed up with empty rhetoric & opaque “favor-for-favor,” “old school,” “back-room” politics. We believe meaningful change is within our reach. We believe we have been shut out of the political process, deceived, shafted, bilked, hoodwinked, swindled, bamboozled, defrauded, fleeced & conned for generations & we have had enough. We believe New York City needs to be rethought, revamped, restructured, reformed & fully realized in every way imaginable, from-the-top-down. We believe we have the power, in our numbers, to develop a comprehensive plan for the remodeling of city government &, in time, the ability to make our vision a reality.
Primary on our agenda is the reimagining of NYC government. We want the community to be at the center of power, not some incompetent Mayor, corrupt Borough Presidents & the sheepishly conservative City Council.
Of immediate concern is the 2021 NYC Municipal Elections. We see few, if any, inspiring candidates for any major governmental role. We are concerned that the problems encountered during the de Blasio administration will be compounded. BETWEEN NOW & ELECTION DAY WE MUST WORK EVERY DAY TO assure that New York moves in the direction of an empowered community.
